River Heritage House
Project type
New Construction
Date
2017
Location
Rockledge, FL
Built on family land owned for over a century in Historic Rockledge, this project began with the careful salvage of elements from the grandmother's original, deteriorating house. Our team identified and preserved cabinets, doors, and beams before demolition to incorporate these meaningful pieces into the new riverfront home.
The new residence draws inspiration from traditional Southern architecture, featuring a graceful wrap-around porch with rounded corners and broad steps leading to impressive double front doors. For durability and storm resistance, we wrapped the house in HardiePlank siding and fitted with impact windows throughout, eliminating the need for shutters.
Heritage elements are showcased throughout, including original beams secured in the family room's tray ceiling and the grandmother's mantel. Custom features include carpenter-built sideboards and wainscoting in several rooms. The country kitchen centers around a substantial stone-topped island, while the dining area accommodates an expandable table for holiday gatherings.
Additional spaces include a sound-insulated music room/office and a wine cupboard repurposed from the original house and cleverly positioned under the stairs. The homeowner personally crafted barn doors using wood salvaged from the historic structure.
The layout includes a detached garage connected to the main house via a covered walkway, with beautiful pavers creating a spacious patio surrounding the pool and connecting the buildings.
